Beer Trip: Springfield Brewing Co. in Springfield, Missouri
If you’re a craft beer fan, then you must turn Springfield, Missouri, into a weekend-long brewery destination. While the city is best known for Bass Pro Shops, they have some great craft breweries, and Springfield Brewing Company is one of them.

Springfield Brewing is located right in the heart of downtown, which is very walkable to several other nearby breweries. This area is dubbed by locals as “brewery alley.” Springfield Brewing occupies a large, historic brick building with ample free street parking all around. Walking through the front door, you get a broad range view of the whole main floor featuring tons of tables, chairs, and a huge, oval-shaped bar right in the center of the room. The place is constructed of large timber columns and beams, exposed floor and ceiling joists, and has original brick walls accenting the wood.

There are numerous seating options downstairs, but the venue also features an upstairs space that is equally massive, complete with several pool tables and a few reservable event spaces. Thankfully for us, this area wasn’t occupied when we were here, so our 2-year-old son was able to run around and play with the pool balls without obstructing anyone else. The second-floor outdoor patio wasn’t open the day we were there, but we’re told that it’s quite spacious and is where many locals prefer to spend their time. They also have a smaller patio right near the front entrance, and it appeared to be dog-friendly.

The Beer
McDaniel’s Draught
Having visited once before, we were somewhat familiar with a few of their brews. Springfield Brewing maintains 10 to 12 different taps at any given time, with 4 of those being flagships, and the rest are either seasonal offerings or rotators. While they brew beers across many styles, lagers certainly seemed to be their favorite as they occupied 5 slots on the menu. This visit’s options included the lagers, 3 IPAs, a wheat, a stout, and a sour.
The 417 Lager is a flagship and perhaps their most popular beer. This one is a traditional style lager (so light and clean!), but has more flavor to it than other lagers with hints of a grainy taste. Another one of our favorites is their McDaniel’s Draught, which is an Irish Stout. This might be the driest beer we’ve ever had, but it has a great coffee taste and is served on nitro - which makes it really smooth as well. The last brew worth noting was the Oscura. They style it as a Mexican lager, and it offers a sweet, biscuity taste that is quite unique.
Food, Merch, & More
Small merch section but mighty to-go beer section!
As popular as Springfield Brewing is for their beer, they might be equally known for their food. Offering a full kitchen, they have mac and cheese, sandwiches, and burgers, along with wood-fired pizza made right inside the front entryway. We enjoyed our lunch and appreciated the diversity in the menu (including kids’ meals)!
If beer isn’t your thing, you’ll find a full bar menu utilizing spirits from Iechyd Distillery, which is a sister company located right next door. While we didn’t have time, we were told that the distillery is well worth checking out!

The merchandise section here is fairly weak for a place this size and only had shirts displayed when we stepped in; however, they make up for it by having almost every single beer on tap available in a to-go 6-pack.
Overall, our experience at Springfield Brewing was top-notch. They have an awesome building, good food, and quality beer. What more could you ask for?
Cheers!
